About the Campus
The summer session of Golden Gate School will be held at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont. NDNU is just 15-20 minutes from San Francisco, in the Belmont hills near to
the I-280 and 101 freeways. Blending rural tranquility and urban stimulation, the campus' tree-shaded academic seclusion provides a perfect setting for learning.
Founded in 1851, NDNU features scenic locations for photo demonstrations, in the peaceful, wooded community of Belmont. It's within walking distance of coffee houses and ethnic restaurants. NDNU provides a number of modern facilities including an art gallery, theatre,
and the beautiful Ralston Hall that has been the setting for many Golden Gate School photographs over the years. Ralston Hall, an 80-room estate, was built in 1864 and is listed as a national and state
historic landmark.
Accommodations on Campus for the summer session (please see REGISTRATION PAGE for current rates)
GGS offers the convenience of affordable single occupancy college-style dorms on campus. Accommodations include three meals per day (provided by Bon Appetit Catering) and a
linen packet (bed linens, pillow, cup, soap and towels) for participants to make their own beds. Showers and restrooms are close to each sleeping room (room assignments made by the college's conference
department).
The benefit of on-campus housing, besides its affordable cost, is the ability to avoid commuting and relax for the entire week, plus the ability to fully enjoy the fellowship and
networking with other students in the evenings. The convenient, practical, and serviceable accommodations are an ideal fit for study and community learning, and do not compete with modern hotels and
their amenities.
The planned dorm for the 2009 GGS session will be the New Hall, opened in September 2004. Each student has an individual room in a four-person suite. Each suite consists of
four sleeping rooms that share a common area, one bathroom and two sinks. Each individual room is furnished with a long twin bed, dresser, desk, and wardrobe closet. All rooms are wheelchair
accessible. New Hall features a Sky Lounge with big screen TV, kitchenette and laundry room along with snack and soda machines.
Those accustomed to more traditional accommodations may be more satisfied in a nearby hotel, and some options are listed below.
