About the Course This course is designed for those either new to or considering a career in photography. Are you thinking of going "Pro"
or do you have a support staff person that you want to "upgrade" to a photographer? Or, perhaps you've been in the business for a while but need some reinforcement or clarification of the "basics." This
workshop covers the important "first step" to entering this industry and will give the essential knowledge and information needed to get started in professional portrait/wedding photography.
In this fast-paced workshop, students will learn about professional level cameras, techniques of exposure metering and control, and principles of lighting and optics. The class will
discuss varied equipment and formats, composition and design, and many other basic necessities.
Basic skills of portrait and wedding posing and lighting will also be introduced. Participants will be shown the basics of working with existing and artificial light during a live studio
demonstration as well as an on-location session. Learn from two knowledgeable and talented instructors, working portrait/wedding pros, who will share their valuable experience so that you can avoid problems. Whether
you plan to specialize in portraits, weddings, or both, you will walk away with useful knowledge to help you in your professional photographic career.
Understand how to efficiently and cost-effectively use practical applications of digital photography for portraits/weddings and get the best results possible. Digital can eat up lots of
your time and money; if you have not totally made the transition to digital, learn what expenses to avoid and what items you must have so that you don't get in over your head. This segment is designed to help you
maximize your productivity to increase profits and reduce expenses.
Topics will include: lighting and exposure for digital, file formats and resolution, workflow to maximize productivity, image management/archiving. A Photoshop introduction will cover:
navigation, tools, and preferences, cropping, resizing, image correction, basic image enhancement, and preparing files for output. It is recommended you bring a computer with Photoshop version CS or later for the
third day. It is extremely helpful for you to be familiar with either a MAC or PC operating system: how to save files, make folders, navigate with mouse, etc, as this information will NOT be covered in the class.
