About the Course
This class on essential Photoshop techniques is created for photographers by a photographer. Sean
will cover important skills and concepts that are common to most photographic projects in Photoshop. Students will be guided through the Photoshop interface and the most important tools and features that
are of use in the editing of photographic images. Learn the basics of working with digital images including: understanding tonal and color correction tools, masks, selections, mask channels, retouching
basics and object removal, creating composites, cropping and resizing images for output, and taking advantage of some of Photoshop's automated features for creating picture packages and web galleries.
Additional topics include:
- Important preferences and color settings
- Basic color management overview
- Image size and resolution
- Understanding the histogram
- The pros & cons of working with RAW images
- Working with layers, adjustment layers and layer masks
- Image sharpening
- Digital "hand tinting" and toning techniques for adding color to a B&W image
About the Instructor
Seán Duggan is a photographer and digital artist who combines a traditional fine art
photographic background with extensive real world experience in the field of digital imaging. He is a co-author of Real World Digital Photography (Peachpit Press, 2003), and Photoshop CS Artistry, Mastering the Digital Image (New Riders, 2004), and he is the series editor for the Photoshop Dream Team Book, Vol. 1 (2004).
Seán is an Adobe Certified Photoshop Expert and a member of the Photoshop beta testing group. His Photoshop tutorial column can be seen regularly in MacDesign magazine and he writes on Photoshop
and digital imaging topics for Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo Pro magazines.
Duggan teaches digital imaging and Photoshop for photographers at the Academy of Art Univeristy
in San Francisco, the University of California Santa Cruz Extension, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, Palm Beach Photographic Workshops and the Lepp Institute of Digital Imaging. Seán provides Photoshop
